Golf Courses

Montado Golf Club

Montado course was given a serious revamp in 2006 and is now one of the most entertaining and challenging courses in the Lisbon area. The course is still surrounded by famous muscatel vineyards that were planted here more than a century ago, but the layout is now longer and more challenging , with several classic risk-reward holes that make a round here unforgettable. The course unfolds beneath old oaks and younger olive trees, chestnut and pines, planted when the course was first built, whilst around it wind creeks and natural lakes. There are four sets of tees, taking the course from nearly 7,000 yards down to around 5,200 yards, so it can be enjoyed by players of most ability levels

PGA National: Aroeira I Golf Club

Designed by Frank Pennink and opened in 1973, Aroeira I was affectionately christened the ‘Wentworth of Lisbon’ by the UK press and it is easy to see why. Played through tall avenues of pine forest and surrounded by wildlife and nature, the golf course plays to 6,650 yards and demands accuracy and placement off the tee in order to maximise opportunities to hit the target greens in regulation. The course was the venue for the Portuguese Open in 1996 and 1997 and, in addition to staging several Ladies’ European Tour events, played host to the prestigious European Men’s Club Trophy in 2013.

PGA National: Aroeira II Golf Club

With the inauguration of the second course in the year 2000, Aroiera was confirmed as one of Portugal's premier golfing destinations. Aroeira II was conceived by Donald Steel, the man responsible for so many outstanding projects both in the UK and abroad, and has been earmarked for future Portuguese Opens. The course winds its way around several lakes, and with a variety of tee markers on offer, it remains playable for golfers of all standards.

Ribagolfe I Golf Club

Ribagolfe I opened for play in the summer of 2004, designed by Peter Townsend (European Golf Design), and is a stunning championship golf course. The par-72 layout is a formidable test from the championship tees, measuring 7,327 yards, and is one that will test even the most skilful players, demanding every shot in the bag. The natural landscape has great sweeping undulations that make for interesting holes as well as facilitating terrific views. Accuracy is the most valuable asset around Ribagolfe I, where the fairways are narrow, and the sloping greens are protected by fearsome bunkers, while the tricky lakes that are dotted around the course can wreak havoc on your scorecard.

Ribagolfe II Golf Club

Designed by Michaeal King in collaboration with European Golf Design, Riabgolfe II lies adjacent to the formidable first course (Ribagolfe I), and presents a more forgiving test. The fairways are more forgiving, and at 6,846 yards, the course is considerably shorter than its neighbour, but the array of lakes and pot bunkers makes it extremely interesting. Carved through beautiful groves of cork oak trees, Ribagolfe's second course is a real pleasure to play during a golf holiday in the Lisbon area of Portugal.

Quinta do Peru Golf & Country Club

Located 30 minutes drive from Lisbon city and framed by the Arrábida Natural Park, Quinta do Peru Golf & Country Club is a beautifully crafted design by Rocky Roquemore and is rated among the ‘Top 100 courses in Continental Europe’ in the prestigious Golf World magazine ranking. Opened in 1994, the parkland layout meanders through verdant pines and provides a 6,640-yard, par 72 test, with astute bunkering and true-rolling, quick greens that will offer a good examination of any putting stroke.

Troia Golf Club

Troia's championship golf course is situated on the Troia peninsula near Setubal, to the South of Lisbon. Trent Jones Sr's superb layout is characterised by small greens and narrow fairways, guarded by the sandy dunes that make the peninsula so special. Troia hosted the Portuguese Open in 1983, and more recently was the venue for the European Amateur Championships, underlining how good the championship course is.
